Description:

Organic Cinnamon leaf oil has a musky, spicy scent, much lighter to that of cinnamon bark oil. Well known for its significant health benefits, and as a component in soaps and flavourings/seasonings, this oil is also useful in for activities within the home. Cleaning fruits and vegetables is common, due to its antibacterial and antioxidant properties. This product has even been revealed to help remove salmonella from leafy greens. Further to this, the oil is used as an effective insect repellent (can also kill head lice in children) due to its eugenol, cinnamaldehyde and a-terpineol content, and a treatment for toothaches when added to water.

Cinnamon bushes are a medium sized with large attractive evergreen leaves, growing to 15 to 25 feet tall. The leaves and bark give a pleasant cinnamon scent when crushed.

Cinnamon comes from the Greek words ‘eu’ (well) and ‘calyptos’ (covered).  Zeylanicum refers to the variety of cinnamon known as ‘true cinnamon’ from ‘ceylon’ now known as Sri Lanka,

The bushes reach maturity after 1-2 years and are then suitable for oil production.

Cinnamomum Zeylanicum is grown in multi-culture plantations in a tropical region where there is plenty of heat and plenty of rain. The main growing region in Sri Lanka is on the Southern, western side of the island.

Cinnamon leaf oil is grown in other locations such as Madagascar and India but the Sri Lankan material is regarded as the finest oil.

Khush Ingredients sources it’s material directly from Sri Lanka, providing a range of oils cinnamon leaf, cinnamon bark, organic cinnamon leaf and organic cinnamon bark. There is also a food grade cinnamon leaf oil available on request. Khush Ingredients also source another cinnamomum, this time, Cassia, from China. This section just now refers to conventional Cinnamon Leaf oil.

The leaves can be harvested several times per year depending on weather, although the best time is usually around October to November.

Khush Ingredients commissions production and import directly from Sri Lanka. A route that takes about 7 weeks from order to arrive in our warehouse.

Shipments are confirmed after careful batch selection and pre-shipment samples are approved by us.

Shelf Life:

Whilst we try and deliver cinnamon leaf oil within 12 months of production, the shelf life is actually stated as five years when stored correctly. Storage away from heat, air and moisture prevent the product from degradation.

The best options for maximising shelf life is either to:

  1. Use a nitrogen purge capability if leaving a container part full
  2. Do not leave a container part full

We suggest a reference sample is taken of the fresh material when first delivered. This should be retained in optimum conditions. The balance of the container can then be compared, at points in the future, to the reference sample for signs of degradation of odour or colour change. If there is not significant difference in colour and odour then the material is okay to use. We suggest re-check every 12 months.

Certification:

Khush Ingredients is certified by the Soil Association and all organic materials are imported with full certificate of inspection, authorised by Sri Lankan and UK Port Health. Khush Ingredients supplies a certificate of analysis with every batch, identifying major components and providing the GC trace from the producer. A more complete analysis is available at additional charge.

The food grade cinnamon leaf oil is also available with certificate of analysis also providing details of heavy metal content and micro-biological profile.
